Research Ideas for Elementary Music

This year, I began working for Northern University, Iowa’s Research and Development School (formerly known as Price Lab). The first year was wild with getting organized, and teaching all levels PreK-12, plus supervising college students in field experience. However, I am looking forward to next year, and hopefully taking some time to explore the research possibilities at the school.

Here are some of my ideas that I’m looking at exploring. Feel free to comment (if I have any readers 🙂 ).

1. Incorporating music and physical education classes through creative movement and folk dance

2. Creating a sequential curriculum that spans the elementary music/secondary ensemble divide.

3. Discovery learning processes versus guided instruction in the elementary music classroom.

4. A comparative analysis of various rhythm and pitch syllable systems in practice.
